Dominic Foti, LCMHC
I’m a licensed mental health counselor based in Stowe, Vermont, where I work with individuals and couples who want to create meaningful, lasting change in their lives. My work includes both psychotherapy and performance coaching, supporting people who want to better understand themselves, strengthen relationships, and engage more intentionally with the demands of their personal and professional lives. My approach is grounded in integrity, honesty, and clear communication—helping clients build self-awareness, navigate challenges with clarity, and move forward with greater steadiness and balance.
I believe therapy and coaching work best when they are both open-ended and anchored—curious, but not aimless. I don’t approach my work with a fixed agenda or a promise to fix what’s broken. Instead, I aim to create a grounded, focused space where we can speak honestly and think carefully about what’s happening, what matters most to you, and what choices are actually available. Sometimes that leads to relief or change; other times it leads to clarity that wasn’t initially hoped for—but is still meaningful.
My career began in wilderness therapy, where I guided and later provided clinical support in the outdoors. Those experiences continue to shape my work today, informing both my therapeutic and performance-based work and reminding me that growth often happens when we slow down, step outside our comfort zones, and reconnect—with ourselves, with others, and with what truly matters.
In addition to my clinical work, I bring a lifelong background in competitive golf and martial arts. I played golf at a the mini-tour level and competed in martial arts throughout college. Together, these disciplines continue to inform my performance coaching—particularly around focus, emotional regulation, discipline, and decision-making under pressure. Both fields reinforced the same lesson: sustainable performance is built less on force or motivation, and more on discipline, awareness, and the ability to remain steady when the stakes are high.
Over the past 20 years, I’ve worked in a range of therapeutic settings and served in clinical leadership roles, supporting people through stress, transition, interpersonal challenges, and high-pressure decision-making. My approach draws from evidence-based methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and internal family systems therapy (IFS), with an emphasis on accountability, authenticity, emotional awareness, and effective action.
I completed my clinical training at the University of Vermont and have continued my professional development through programs at Harvard Medical School and other reputable institutions. I’ve also presented at conferences nationwide on topics related to wilderness therapy, interpersonal communication, meditation, mental health, and performance under pressure.
I live in Stowe with my wife, Kat, and our two young sons. Kat is a doctor of physical therapy and owner of Stowe Physical Therapy & Pilates. We share a small clinic overlooking the Green Mountains and often collaborate to support both the mental and physical wellbeing of our clients.
